Habitat boxes

In room 14 lately we have been studying the big 5, as a follow up from our South African part of the production. The big 5 are The African Elephant, The African White Rhino, The African Cape Buffalo, The African Lion, and The African Leopard. I chose to study The African Cape Buffalo. I put in 2 buffalo's, a Lion, trees, a grass bed, a stream and some grass to eat. The hardest part of making my habitat box was making the buffalo, because I had to paint cotton balls, stick them together, glue on some eyes (hoping I wouldn't get burnt!) Paint a nose and a mouth also to hot glue on, use more hot glue to stick on legs made out of pipe cleaner, and the trickiest bit make the horns, it was so nerve-racking just making it! I'm soooooooo proud of my habitat box, it looks so good!!! Here's a photo of me and my master peice:

Production 2015

We had our production on the 9th and the 10th of September.

  • I was in the South African group, and we had to do a gumboot dance and a dance to the song 'in the jungle'
  • The best part about our culture that I think was our gumboot dance, because it looked soooo cool when we did it all together and we put a lot of practise into it.
  • To improve our production I think children can  chose if they want to be on stage because for some people it's very scary and they would rather be with Matou mike handling the music and lights
  • I liked the Maori group the most because the made their clothes glow-in-the-dark!!!
If you want to see our production it's on youtube!!!

School production. . . this week!!!

This week on Wednesday and Thursday Vardon school will be doing a school production! Our topic is Cultral connections, I'm in the south African group. I'm Preforming a gumboot dance and I'm also a Buffalo in the 'lion sleeps tonight' dance. We start off doing the gumboot dance. It was invented by South African miners, it was their way of protesting, It is now often preformed at welcoming ceremonies. Then we do our 'the lion sleeps tonight' song. I'm most excited for our Juniors, I can't wait to see how they do! I most nervous about the whole performance because I don't do well infront of a crowd. Wish us luck!!!!!!!!!
