My Dream Job

Think about your future; what's your dream job. Because there's a good chance that by using your imagination you can win:

  1. A $15000 dream job lab for your school
  2. A $5000 holiday for your family
  3. And a AWESOME lap top for your teacher
My dream job was to be an INVENTOR! Everyone thinks this is one of the average job choices, for this competition you could do anything, make up a job if you wanted to, but. . . .Don't you ever have those times when you say "When I'm older I'm gonna invent                 , because I hate having to                 all the time"?
Well I would invent this app on your phone (it would be on at all times) and if you say something like that it will send a message to our computer a we will make it for you. but you own us $20, yup that's right people, were cheap!!!!!!!!!! ; )

Reading-Snow white in New York

In the Homers for reading, we got to choose what book we wanted to read, I choose: 'Snow White In New York'. We had a table we had to full in.

What I See               What I Think                I connect

This is sort of what the table looks like Except with lines. This is an example of one of the collins I did.

What I See                                   What I Think                                I connect

Habitat boxes

In room 14 lately we have been studying the big 5, as a follow up from our South African part of the production. The big 5 are The African Elephant, The African White Rhino, The African Cape Buffalo, The African Lion, and The African Leopard. I chose to study The African Cape Buffalo. I put in 2 buffalo's, a Lion, trees, a grass bed, a stream and some grass to eat. The hardest part of making my habitat box was making the buffalo, because I had to paint cotton balls, stick them together, glue on some eyes (hoping I wouldn't get burnt!) Paint a nose and a mouth also to hot glue on, use more hot glue to stick on legs made out of pipe cleaner, and the trickiest bit make the horns, it was so nerve-racking just making it! I'm soooooooo proud of my habitat box, it looks so good!!! Here's a photo of me and my master peice:

Production 2015

We had our production on the 9th and the 10th of September.

  • I was in the South African group, and we had to do a gumboot dance and a dance to the song 'in the jungle'
  • The best part about our culture that I think was our gumboot dance, because it looked soooo cool when we did it all together and we put a lot of practise into it.
  • To improve our production I think children can  chose if they want to be on stage because for some people it's very scary and they would rather be with Matou mike handling the music and lights
  • I liked the Maori group the most because the made their clothes glow-in-the-dark!!!
If you want to see our production it's on youtube!!!

School production. . . this week!!!

This week on Wednesday and Thursday Vardon school will be doing a school production! Our topic is Cultral connections, I'm in the south African group. I'm Preforming a gumboot dance and I'm also a Buffalo in the 'lion sleeps tonight' dance. We start off doing the gumboot dance. It was invented by South African miners, it was their way of protesting, It is now often preformed at welcoming ceremonies. Then we do our 'the lion sleeps tonight' song. I'm most excited for our Juniors, I can't wait to see how they do! I most nervous about the whole performance because I don't do well infront of a crowd. Wish us luck!!!!!!!!!

Friend ship note box

Are you some that can make a friend, or are you someone that can keep a friend. In rm14 our W.A.L.T is : We are learning how to make  friends and how to keep them. To follow up with that W.A.L.T we decided to make friend ship boxes. You might be thinking . . .

  • What is a friend ship box?
  • How do you make them?
  • And what are they for?
As you can see at the top I put a picture of MY friend ship box.

  1.  A friendship box is something Mrs Gunn created to help our class, there like lots of warm fuzzes, and we check our boxes on a Friday to see what messages we got!!!!
  2. Mrs Gunn made lots of coloured papers with a lay out of a friend ship box, we had to cut, fold, glue, and had to be resilient because the glue would JUST NOT HOLD!!!!!!!!!
  3. We have friend ship boxes to see the good in everyone and to make them feel good about themselves
I think that friendship boxes are cool because it makes sure people feel good about themselves!

Seven Sharp Interview Last Wednesday

Guess what happened last Wednesday!(think about this before you read any more.) Do you give up? Well let me tell you then. Do you remember some of my last posts about Doug Wilson? and seven sharp? THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED, WE GOT INTERVIEWED, AND WERE GONNA BE ON T.V!!! The part that was most exciting for me was getting a separate interview!!! I learnt that an author needs a publisher and can't just publish it by them selves. The best part of the day was getting everyone's signs, because it will help me remember everyone that was part of this AMAZING experiment. The part that I will remember the most of that day is just getting back together with the yr 6's from last year, and just having a good time.
this is a photo of everyone that was part of this event

The Broad Street Killer-reading

Previously, the Homers have been reading a school journal called 'The Broad Street Killer.' This journal is not about a Murderer, it's about a disease in the 19 hundreds that was called cholera. This disease was contagious and everyone thought it was being spread by the bad air, except for doctor John Snow. He thought that it was being spread by the water pump on Broad Street because that's were most of the victims lived!!! In the end Doctor Snow was right and the water pump on Broad Street got replaced!  Luckily we don't have Cholera in New Zealand, but we will always remember Doctor John Snow whose name will go on forever!

Seven Sharp Interview

On Wednesday Seven sharp will be interviewing Room 14 from last year about the stories 'Don't mess with these kids' by Doug Wilson. If this doesn't make scene I'll  summarise it up, ROOM 14 (from last year) IS GOING TO BE ON TV!!! Doug Wilson is the lovey author behind the book. We got to know him while reading a shared novel, called Tom Hassler and the whale killers (here is the website: http://www.tomhassler.com/ ) Our book is about room 14  going on camp and a new government taking over New Zealand, and we couldn't get hold of ANYONE. In the end room 14 saves everyone, that's all I'm going to tell you, if you want to read it, it will be available on the 13th of July THIS YEAR!!!  Here's a pic of the front cover:
I'm hiding behind the bush next to Titus.
The thing I'm looking forward to the most is being on TV, Da! ( : because then everyone will see me.

Reading-King and Country

Previously in the Homers(my reading group)we read a book called King and Country. King and Country is about a boy called Tipu. He was a Maori 18 year old and he wanted to go to war; but he was to young so his older brother Rongo (age 21) went instead. Eventually Tipu got to go to war and he found his brother Rongo, But all they did was DIG.

My colour poem

Try and infer. Can you guess what what colour I'm writing about is? Write a comment if you think you do and I'll try and reply.
My colour poem
Orange is the colour of Dad's feet when there swollen,
Orange is the colour of an Autumn leaf as soon as it gets stolen,
Orange is a flame burning up the ground,
Orange is an orange that's perfectly round,
Orange is like a traffic light telling you to slow down,
Orange is a sunset just waiting to be found.

Riding Into War-Reading Project

In the Homers we read a book called 'Riding into War'. The main character is Billy and his horse Tui. After we finished reading our novel we had to pick a reading project to do about the book 'Riding Into War'. Amelia and I choose to do a static image. Here is a picture of our project:

First we cut our picture in half, and put a circle in the middle to put a picture of  Billy and Tui. We  did the four settings that were most important in the book and we did two settings each. It took us at least two weeks to make this amazing project.

Riding into war

The Homers have just finished reading their book riding into war. Over the last few chapters Jack died and Billy's leg got amputated. It was so very sad : ( I think it was cool when Billy arrived home because when he got off the boat there was Alice standing there waiting for Billy to arrive home. This was a cool story and I can't wait to read '1915 riding into war'

100 word challenge

The  giant monster steering down at ME!!!
The bell rang 'bing bong,' The kids rushed out side while the teacher rubbed her head.
"Stay close to the field " yelled Mrs Hattie over the noisy children. But Cindy thought about this differently. As soon as Cindy was out side she headed for the slimy stump that her teachers tell her to avoid. She started to sprint and when she got to the stump she  pulled out the roped she had sneaked in their earlier. She climbed until she reached the top and when she landed on the stump she looked up and their stood a giant monster steering down at me.

Room 14's field of remembrance

Room 14 made a field of remembrance, I think it's pretty cool because it has been 100 YEARS since our solders went to Gallopli to fight for our future. We made our cross out of smooth white wood and some double sided tape, on our crosses we put names of people what they did and their numbers. We did this because some of us have ancestors that severed in the war so we are going to show or appreciation to them. People can come to see these at our flag pole at the front of our school. Here is a photo of me and the cross I  made:

My birthday!!!

Today is my birthday. My mum made me a poodle cup cake cake!! look at it:

Isn't it cool? There was four cupcakes left after everyone had a cupcake, so I gave 1 to fire Melody, 1 to Miss Willey, 1 to Mrs Woolf, and 1 to Mrs Roskam. The cake was delicious and everyone loved it!!!
